Starting Wednesday, February 1, all passengers on most domestic Delta Air Lines flights will have access to free Wi-Fi all flight long.
The company is partnering with T-Mobile to provide the service, but you don't have to be a T-Mobile customer to log on. No matter what your wireless provider is, all you'll need to connect your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to the free wireless network on the plane is an account with Delta SkyMiles, the airline's free-to-join loyalty program.
Delta made the announcement today at the CES conference, an annual tech-stravaganza held in Las Vegas.
T-Mobile already made free Wi-Fi in the skies available to customers on its most popular plans via the company's Coverage Beyond suite of travel-friendly perks and discounts.
Now Delta flyers who use Verizon, AT&T, and other providers can benefit, too.
According to Delta, free onboard Wi-Fi will roll out to most "domestic mainline Delta flights" beginning next month, with more than 700 aircraft expected to offer the service by the end of the year. The airline is aiming to expand the offering to international and regional routes by the end of 2024.
Travel Weekly reports that the move will make Delta the first of the four largest U.S. airlines—which also include United, American, and Southwest—to offer free Wi-Fi to all passengers all flight long.
Among smaller U.S. carriers, only JetBlue makes free Wi-Fi widely available (though Hawaiian Airlines is working on it).
