• Playa Norte: Within a few minutes’ walk of the main town, you can plant your toes on one of the region’s most stunning swimming beaches at Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres. Whether you come for a day trip from Cancún or spend several nights here, be sure to float in the warm, calm water, lounge on the powder-soft white sand, and take in the sunset while sipping a cool one at a rustic beach bar.
  • Playa Delfines: Cancún’s longest, widest beach—free of the phalanx of resorts that claim so much of the Hotel Zone’s sand—is a peaceful place for sunbathing under skies speckled with parasailers; surfers also find good waves here under the right conditions. In early morning, watch for the wild dolphins that give the beach its name.
  • Playa Langosta: In the middle of Cancún’s northern beaches, facing placid Bahía Mujeres, shallow waters here are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The beach, made up of the powdery sand Cancún is famous for, is well supplied with palapas, restaurants, and bars.
  • Puerto Morelos: The northern Caribbean coast’s most pristine section of the Great Mesoamerican Reef rises close to the surface in this small fishing town, giving swimmers and snorkelers incomparable views of its sea life. Ojo de Agua, the best of its clean, rarely crowded beaches, lies north of the fishing pier. Puerto Morelos is about an hour drive from Cancún.
